BASE MasterCard - General

How can I apply for a BASE MasterCard?

There are two ways to apply for this card: online or in a BASE shop.
Online: fill out the application form here. Print it, sign it and send it to the address mentioned on the form. If your application is accepted, you will receive a letter of confirmation and you can choose a pin code. You can also visit one of our BASE shops where they will gladly help you.

I am not a BASE customer. Can I apply for a BASE MasterCard?

You are at least 18 years old, you have a minimum income of 1150€, you have sufficient revenues to be able to reimburse the purchases made via your BASE Mastercard monthly.

How long is a BASE MasterCard valid for?

A BASE MasterCard is valid for five years (the expiration date is mentioned on the card). You will automatically be issued a new card after five years.

What are the charges for a BASE MasterCard?

Your BASE MasterCard is free the first year. It is free during the following years, subject to at least € 2,000 in transactions during the previous years (this does not include cash withdrawals). You can keep track of how much you have spent in the past year in your account statement. If this amount is less than €2,000 at the end of the year, then you will have to pay a € 15 charge for using your BASE MasterCard the following year. If you choose to customize your card, then you will have to pay a one-off additional charge per card of € 9.75.

Who will send me an account statement regarding the use of my BASE MasterCard?

International Card Services, which issues the BASE MasterCard, will send you an account statement once a month, always on the same day.

BASE MasterCard - Usage

When can I start using my BASE MasterCard?

Your BASE MasterCard will be sent to you blocked. As soon as you have received it, please call the number mentioned on the sticker on your card. You will be asked to input the ten-digit code, which you received with your welcome letter. Your card is then ready for use!

Is the BASE MasterCard accepted everywhere?

The BASE MasterCard is accepted worldwide, wherever you see the MasterCard logo.

What is the maximum spending limit for my BASE MasterCard?

Your card has a standard maximum spending limit of € 3,000**. If you require a higher spending limit, please indicate this when requesting your BASE MasterCard. International Card Services will then decide whether this higher spending limit is accepted.

Can I withdraw cash with my Base MasterCard?

Base MasterCard offers you all of the facilities of a BASE MasterCard, including cash withdrawals (at € 4.50 per transaction).

BASE MasterCard - Free call value to BASE

How many free minutes do I receive?*

Every month you will receive free minutes for BASE to BASE calls for every purchase made with your BASE MasterCard as long as the total amount of your purchases in the previous month is at least € 10. This means you can easily receive up to 60 free minutes per month for BASE to BASE calls. Moreover, you (or your beneficiary) will receive 60 additional minutes for BASE to BASE calls every year when you renew your card or on your birthday. You can thus receive up to 840 free minutes for BASE to BASE calls a year.

When do I receive my free minutes?

The minutes related to the transactions with your BASE MasterCard will be credited to you at the beginning of each month. You will receive your birthday gift of 60 free minutes in the month before your birthday. The 60 free minutes for the annual renewal of your card will be credited to you in the month following your renewal.

How do I choose the mobile phone number to which these free minutes will be credited?

The beneficiary of the free minutes can be your own BASE number, as well as any other BASE number. Simply fill in the BASE number of your choice on the application form.

Can I change my beneficiary?

Yes, you can. Just phone the MasterCard Helpdesk at 02 416 17 68.

How long are the free minutes valid?

Your free minutes will remain valid for 24 months as long as you do not change tariff plans and are a BASE customer.

How do I know how many free minutes I have earned?

Every time free minutes are added to your balance, you will receive a text message with the number of minutes. You can also check how many free minutes you have by sending a free of charge text message CONSULT to 1914.

BASE MasterCard - Confirmation text message

When will I receive a confirmation text message?

For every purchase of over € 150 with your BASE MasterCard. Just tick the box in question on the application form to activate this service. If you do not tick the box, then you will not receive a confirmation text message for purchase of more than € 150. To stop this text message service: just phone the MasterCard Helpdesk at 02 416 17 68.

What is the advantage of this confirmation text message?

It is a great way of checking your purchases when distance buying via the Internet or by mail order. At least you know that you have completed the purchase. But above all it is a built-in security measure: the text message will notify you of any purchases of over € 150 and thus of any abuse of your card. Example: if your card or card details have been stolen (without your knowledge) or if someone else uses your card for purchases of over € 150.

Can I choose which number receives the confirmation text messages for purchases of over € 150?

Yes, you can choose the number to which we send these text messages. This can be the number of the BASE MasterCard holder or of another BASE customer.

BASE MasterCard - Customization

How can I customize my BASE MasterCard?

You can customize your card here with a photo of your choice or a photo from our gallery. You can also easily edit your photo here (rotate, adjust format, etc.). Attention: you cannot customize your BASE MasterCard if you apply for it at a BASE shop.

Which photo can I choose

You can choose one of your own photos, an image from our gallery or a photo from a website with images that are free of copyright. The photo has to comply with MasterCard guidelines.

Will the quality of the photo on my BASE MasterCard be sufficiently good?

Yes, if you choose a photo of good quality. The quality of the photo on your BASE MasterCard will be the same as that of the original photo.

BASE MasterCard - Security and insurance

My BASE MasterCard has been lost or stolen. What should I do?

Notify the police as soon as possible and call the emergency number of International Card Services +32 (0)2 416 16 16. This number can be reached 24/7 (a collect telephone call to ICS will be accepted). Your BASE MasterCard will be blocked as soon as you have reported its loss or theft.

Will I receive a new BASE MasterCard if I have lost my card?

You can apply for a new card as soon as your card has been blocked.

I have not received my BASE MasterCard yet. What should I do?

For safety reasons your BASE MasterCard is blocked when we dispatch it to you. You will be sent a pin code, which you need to unblock the card, separately. Your BASE MasterCard can thus not be used by anybody else. If you have not received your card within thirteen days after requesting your pin code, please contact International Card Services 02 416 17 68.

My BASE MasterCard does not work. What should I do?

Maybe you have not yet unblocked your card? International Card Services can probably help you. Please call 02 416 17 68.

Which insurance is associated with the BASE MasterCard?

Your BASE MasterCard comes with buyer's insurance, meaning any purchases paid with the BASE MasterCard are insured for 180 days after the date of your purchase against loss, theft and damage. Your card also comes with complementary travel insurance. If you pay your foreign vacation or travel with the BASE MasterCard, then you will automatically extend your travel insurance (free of charge) with travel accident insurance, travel assistance, flight delay insurance and luggage insurance. The terms and conditions of the insurance policies take precedence over this information.

BASE MasterCard - Help

I would like to spread my payments. Is this possible?

If you do not wish to pay the outstanding balance of your BASE MasterCard in one go, then you can use the 'Spread Payments' facility. This means you can pay at your own pace. All we ask is that you pay a minimum amount every month. You will naturally pay interest on the outstanding balance. Call the MasterCard Helpdesk at 02 416 17 68 to request this credit facility.

How do I notify you of a change of address?

You will need to send a letter to International Card Services. State the number of your BASE MasterCard, your old address, your new address, the date of your move and above all, do not forget to sign your letter. You can also send the coupon in the manual that came with your BASE MasterCard and return it to us. Contact details:

How can I change my bank account number?

You need to do this in writing. Please state the number of your BASE MasterCard and your old and new bank account numbers. Do not forget to sign your letter.

I have a question about the account statement for my BASE MasterCard. What should I do?

Please call International Card Services at 02 416 17 68.

I have a question about my BASE invoice. What should I do?

Call 1999 with your BASE mobile phone or 0486 19 19 99 with another phone.

BASE MasterCard - Cancellation

How can I cancel my BASE MasterCard?

Contact International Card Services at 02 416 17 68 and request cancellation of your BASE MasterCard. You can retain your BASE MasterCard for the period for which you have paid your annual fee, but you will no longer be entitled to free minutes or other benefits.

If I cancel my BASE MasterCard, will this affect my BASE subscription?

No, this will not affect your BASE subscription.

* The free minutes only apply to national calls to BASE numbers and are for private use only. They remain valid for 24 months (as long as you are a BASE customer and do not change tariff plans) with a monthly extension as long as the beneficiary is not changed and you continue to use your BASE MasterCard for transactions. The number of free minutes is calculated based on the amount that you spent in the past month on transactions. The mobile phone number mentioned on the application form will receive 10 free minutes as soon as you spend an amount of €10 on specific transactions. A minute will be added for every additional € 6, with a maximum of 60 minutes a month.
